Course Objective:

This course in Classical Latin builds upon prior knowledge of basic Latin vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. It is designed for students who have already been introduced to the fundamentals of the language and are ready to broaden their understanding and translation skills.

Prerequisite Knowledge:

Before beginning this course, students are expected to be familiar with the following topics:

· Present tense forms of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th conjugation verbs
· Imperfect tense
· Nouns of the 1st and 2nd declensions
· Adjectives of the 1st and 2nd declensions
· Use of the nominative, vocative, accusative, genitive, dative and ablative noun cases
· Common Latin prepositions
· Expressions of time using the accusative case

Building on this foundation, the course develops students’ ability to translate more confidently between Latin and English, while also expanding their understanding of Roman culture. Students will explore significant historical and mythological themes, including the legend of the Trojan War and the origins of Rome. By the end of the course, students will have strengthened their grasp of key grammar and vocabulary, improved their translation skills, and gained cultural insights that prepare them for further study in the KS4 GCSE Latin course.
