Course Objective

This course follows AQA’s GCSE Psychology syllabus and aims to introduce students to the concepts behind cognition and behaviour, and how social interactions affect behaviour. It covers studies and theories that have led to the modern understanding of cognitive behaviour, therapies, and treatments.
The course prepares students by developing their understanding of key psychological concepts and their ability to apply this knowledge in various contexts.

Course Description

The course is divided into two main sections: Cognition and Behaviour, and Social Context and Behaviour. Each section covers essential topics in psychology:

Cognition and Behaviour:

Memory
Perception
Development
Research Methods
Social Context and Behaviour:

Social Influence
Language, Thought and Communication
Brain and Neuropsychology
Psychological Problems
Study Expectations:

Independent Study: 2-4 hours per week in addition to the lessons.
Assessment Structure:

The GCSE Psychology course is assessed through two written examinations:

Paper 1: Cognition and Behaviour

Topics: Memory, Perception, Development, Research Methods

Written exam: 1 hour 45 minutes
100 marks
50% of GCSE
Paper 2: Social Context and Behaviour

Topics: Social Influence, Language, Thought and Communication, Brain and Neuropsychology, Psychological Problems
