This course will guide students in preparation for the Cambridge International GCSE in Environmental Management (0680) for examination in 2027. The course will run with a view to students being able to sit their GCSE in May/June 2027 although anyone wishing to take this course as a preparation for taking the exam at a later date is welcome too.

The environment is everything around us. Everything from the room you are sitting in, to the oceans and rainforests and towns and cities we live in. Anything and everything we do, either by accident or design, will have an effect on this environment. Managing our environment well is arguably the most important thing humanity has to do over the next century and beyond.

This iGCSE looks at how we might do this in many different ways. We will consider the rocks themselves from which our planet is made. We will look at energy production and how we manage our oceans and produce our food. The management of the precious resource of water will be considered as well as how to cope with hazards such as volcanic eruptions and tropical cyclones. We will also look at human populations and how we can limit negative impacts such as pollution in our environment. We will also examine the natural ecosystems of the earth and our role in these. Alongside this we will be doing experiments and going outside and doing some fieldwork too!

The course has been restructured for the 2027 exam so content is now very much up to date and there is a greater emphasis on climate change reflecting its increasing environmental impact on our planet.

Please note that the class time will only be one and a half hours per week so it will be ESSENTIAL for students to self study at home in order to be able to gain a good grade in the exam.

Homework will be set and it is the parents responsibility to give encouragement/support or whatever is needed to help with this.
