This is an intensive course to prepare students to sit the Cambridge international GCSE 0990 English Language exam in May 2027. Students intending to sit examination in autumn 2027 and 2028 exam sittings will also benefit from this preparation.
Lessons will focus on teaching key skills including: giving explanation, analysis, inference and summarizing of extracts as well as the expectations of form in English.
In terms of writing, students will be encouraged to consider the effects created by their choice of language as well as structural features. They will explore a range of writing purposes including: narrative and descriptive writing as well as argument.
This class is aimed at students aged 14-16 who are preparing to sit The iGCSE First Language English course in this academic year. A suitable degree of maturity is expected and as such, continuation of 14-year-olds will be subject to teacher discretion.
Teaching and Learning:
There is 1 hour of teacher contact per week.
A further 2-3 hours per week spent on homework and independent study is expected for students to achieve success in their examinations.

Subscription: An admin fee of £30 per family will be added to your first payment of each academic year.
