The KS3 English class begins by exploring language through the theme of chocolate, using tasting, advertising analysis, and sensory description to build skills in figurative language, tone, persuasion, and creative vocabulary choices. Students practise crafting vivid imagery, analysing how writers influence audiences, and producing short descriptive and persuasive texts.
With these foundations in place, the class moves on to reading 'Melt', applying their developed skills to analyse setting, character, and theme, while exploring ideas of survival, friendship, and climate change. Through discussion, close reading, and creative responses, students strengthen their abilities in inference, contextual understanding, empathy driven analysis, and structured analytical writing.
This class is aimed at students aged 11-14.
