This comprehensive two-year course is designed to prepare students for the OCR Latin GCSE examinations in 2028, following the J282F syllabus. It is intended for students who have already been introduced to the fundamentals of the language and are ready to broaden their understanding of Latin vocabulary, accidence and syntax, and explore Roman values and society through the study of classical literature.
Before beginning this course, students are expected to be familiar with the following topics:
• Present tense forms of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th conjugation verbs
• Imperfect tense
• Perfect tense
• Future tense
• Imperatives
• Nouns of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd declensions
• Adjectives of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd declensions
• Use of the nominative, vocative, accusative, genitive, dative and ablative noun cases
• Common Latin prepositions
• Expressions of time using the accusative case
• Personal Pronouns
• Possessive Adjectives
GCSE EXAM INFORMATION:
Language Paper
Written exam testing knowledge of vocabulary and grammar through translation and comprehension passages (J282/01 – 1hr30, worth 50 % of total GCSE)
Literature Papers
Prose Literature exam (J282/03 – 1hr written, worth 25% of total GCSE)
Verse Literature exam (J282/05 – 1hr written, worth 25% of total GCSE)
• J282/03 Prose Literature B set text:
Apuleius, Metamorphoses Book V, 21 (at Psyche relicta sola …) –25 (… herbis exposuit) and 26–27
• J282/05 Verse Literature B set text:
Virgil, Aeneid, 2.1–56, 195-253
This course has two separate hours of teaching per week.

Subscription: An admin fee of £30 per family will be added to your first payment of each academic year.
