Hands-on Engineering, Science, Design and Technology Club.

Aimed at 10-14 year-olds (strictly age 9+) older students are welcome,

Curiosity kills neither cats nor kids.

Experiment, design and build using LEGO Education sets, simple circuits, woodworking tools and materials you’d usually throw in your recycling! Learning will be project based and will mix stand-alone sessions with projects spanning several weeks.

We will:
• explore principles of science, engineering and technology, through experimentation, building and testing
• investigate energy, forces, materials and structures
• use LEGO Education BriQ motion sets
• create individual designs
• experience using simple hand-tools safely
• ask questions about the environmental impact of design choices.

Projects will involve learning, designing and making so that over a number of weeks of learning, a final product will be created. There will be a few stand-alone topics too. Topics will include mechanical and electrical machines, light, magnetism and more.

Projects will recycle household items; material cost contributions will be required for additional items including the purchase of a multi-purpose reusable kit of electrical parts and motors. Materials and equipment needed, will be advised weekly on Google classroom or otherwise. A £20 materials charge is payable to the tutor for materials which will be provided by the tutor.

Students must be able to handle simple tools and carry out practical tasks autonomously. Sensible behaviour is necessary when working with tools and parental support is welcome and may be required at times, particularly for younger members.

Some recording of designs and results will be encouraged; information sheets with written/visual instruction will be provided.
