Students will explore a range of mathematical subjects that will feed into the KS3 National Curriculum and also form a significant part of the GCSE Foundation curriculum.
The Edexcel iGCSE Foundation syllabus will be used. This class is a great companion for those wishing to take the exam in the next two years and for younger students wishing to consolidate foundation topics before progressing to the GCSE Higher level.
Teaching and Learning:
The teaching style encourages independent thinking and the development of mathematical concepts through progressive and interesting tasks.
These tasks involve group work, collaborative investigation and exploration of problems, and challenging each other’s understanding to reach a rigorous comprehension.
Classes are designed to be fun, engaging, and informative.
Homework will be set to consolidate and further explore understanding.
Example Topics:
Multiplicative Relationships:
How they relate to area, perimeter, and scale.
Probability:
Both theoretical probability from dice/card games and experimental probability.
Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages:
Their equivalence and useful manipulation of each.
Resources:
For consolidation, the tutor will either create resources or take them from CAME Mathematics, Bowland Mathematics, CIMT/MEP, NRich, and mostly Corbett Maths.
Required Materials:
It will be hugely beneficial for students to bring the following to each lesson:
2 Pencils
Rubber
Protractor
Ruler with cm and mm
A pair of compasses (for drawing circles)
Calculator (scientific calculator not required)
Exercise books and worksheets will be provided, but access to a printer for homework would be helpful (though not essential).
